Elevated Expectations with Song Kang And Kim Yoo Jung in “My Demon” Yet Disappointing Outcomes.
Table of Contents
Despite the visually striking duo of Song Kang & Kim Yoojung, the drama “My Demon” continues to witness lackluster performance. This series, which follows the story of the devilish tycoon Do Dohee (played by Yoojung) and her contractual marriage to the temporarily powerless demon Guwon (portrayed by Song), is a blend of fantasy and romantic comedy.
“My Demon” Following the Path of “The Escape of the Seven:”
Succeeding “Escape of Seven”, “My Demon” garnered initial interest due to the collaboration between renowned writer Kim Sookok & director Joo Dongmin, previously known for their work in the successful “Penthouse” series. However, “Escape of Seven” sparked controversy for its bold content, debuting with a 6.6% viewership rating & dropping to 5.6% by the fifth episode. The series concluded with a disappointing 6.6% rating.
“My Demon” Failing to Meet High Expectations:
Audiences had high hopes that “My Demon”, starring the visually appealing Song Kang & Kim Yoojung, would revive SBS’s reputation for successful Fri-Sat dramas. Yet, the show started with a mere 4.5% rating, which further declined to 3.4% in its new second episode. It lags behind its competitor, “Park’s Marriage Contract”, officially starring Lee Seyoung & Bae Inhyuk.
SBS’s Struggle in the Drama Segment:
SBS previously found itself overshadowed when “The First Responders” couldn’t compete with MBC’s “My Dearest 1”. Even the much-anticipated “Escape of Seven” by the acclaimed Kim Soonok fell short against “My Dearest 2”. Although SBS had a promising start to the year with hits like “Taxi Driver 2”, + “Dr. Romantic 3”, & “Revenant”, it lost momentum to “My Dearest” in the latter half.
Hope for a Turnaround in “My Demon:”
With “My Demon” only just beginning its telecast, there’s still optimism that Song Kang & Kim Yoojung can revitalize the show with their performances in upcoming episodes, potentially reversing the current trend of low ratings.
